No, the quarterback can never run across the line of scrimmage with the ball.

  • Quarterback is defined as the person who takes the snap from the center
  • Quarterback must hand off or pass the ball within 7 seconds of receiving the snap
  • Quarter back can run around behind the line of scrimmage but can not cross the line of scrimmage
    • Play will be blown dead once QB cross line of scrimmage

Dual threat type of quarterback:

  • If you do want to have a Quarterback who can pass or throw the ball, the best spot for that person is at your running back position
  • Have your quarterback pitch the ball or hand off the ball to your running back
  • Once that running back receives the ball they have the option to either pass or run the ball
  • A few things to keep in mind:
    • Once the ball is handed off or pitched the entire defense is now free to cross the line of scrimmage
    • The 7 seconds clock no longer applies
